A massive 240 soccer greats from other countries in this region and abroad are set to cascade the country’s borders to take part in the Absalom ‘Scara’ Thindwa Soccer Academy Gala Night and Soccer Symposium scheduled for the Royal Villas on October 30 and 31.
The former soccer idols will come to the country to put heads together on how the sport can further be developed and structures can be strengthened to put the continent of Africa on the world map, where it concerns the sport. The two events are meant to raise funds for the construction of a landmark Scara Thindwa soccer academy meant to nurture young talent in the country. Tickets to both events will be available to individuals and companies and details pertaining to their charges will be revealed in due course.
This was revealed during a press briefing pertaining to the events held at the spacious Royal Villas yesterday morning, where Pastor David Matse, who is the chairman of the committee that is working on the project, mentioned that these will be historical events for the country’s soccer fraternity. He mentioned that his committee will work until the weekend of the gala night and soccer symposium, where part of the money for the construction of the academy will be raised, after which a new committee will then be put in place to continue with the work.
“The country will benefit a lot especially through the soccer symposium as a lot of former successful soccer players like Thindwa, who will come from other countries, will come into the country to bring together ideas on how the sport can be further developed in Africa. This will be a historical event which will leave lasting legacies in the country,” said Pastor Matse.
