MBABANE - Miss Swaziland Second Princess Thembakazi Hlophe made it to the top 15 of the Miss Intercontinental contest
The contest was held in Belarus on Sunday and the title went to Hannely Quinterino of Venezuela. The rest of the contestants who made it to the top 15 were from Poland, Puerto Rico, Peru, Curacao, Ethiopia, Belarus, Korea, Martinique, Bahamas, Canada, Georgia, USA and Honduras.
Hlophe was competing with 70 girls from different countries. Miss Swaziland spokesperson Rheodora Isaacs said she received the good news from Vinah Mamba-Gray, who went to support Hlophe and attend a meeting for pageant licence holders.
“They both sounded very excited and Thembakazi was shouting in the background, and she sounded like she could not wait to get back home,” she said. She said they were proud of Hlophe as she represented the country well, by making it to the top 15 which was very uncommon for those who once represented the country in other international contests.
She said Mamba-Gray and Hlophe would fly back home today. She said she was not sure if she got anything for making it to the top 15 because she lost phone connection with Mamba-Gray.
Hlophe had said before her trip that she would do her level best to make the country proud and represent it well as she joined the Miss Swaziland contest because she wanted to do something for the country. “I will represent the country in the best way possible and I will be a true Swazi through and through during the contest,” she said at the time.
The top five were made up of Belarus, Puerto Rico, Poland and Curacao. Miss Ethiopia won the title for Miss Intercontinental Africa. The contest was also celebrating its 38th anniversary.
