MBABANE – The man driving the truck that claimed the life of Sihlangu player Mduduzi Dlamini was allegedly speeding.
The South African born driver, Kenneth Dalana (36), who hails from Ivory Park in South Africa, told the magistrate he was not fit to stand trial as he was still suffering from trauma.
“Your worship I would like to engage the services of an attorney because at this stage I cannot withstand the ordeal and cannot talk for myself,” said Dalana. The crown applied that he be remanded to custody until October 2 pending setting of a trial date in the presence of his attorney.
The crown further opposed his bail application on grounds he was a foreigner and chances are he can avoid trial. Dalana was charged with two counts one being that on September 21 on Malagwane Hill, he allegedly drove negligently along MR3 public road and lost control of the truck and knocked a Ford Bantum registered SD 272 XG, which was driven by Berry Robert. It is alleged he further went on to knock a government Toyota kombi SG 100 CP driven by Luis Dlamini and 13 passengers were injured during the accident.
On the second count, Dalana was charged with allegedly speeding the truck and in the process, Mduduzi ‘Mathous-and’ Dlamini, who was a passe-nger in the kombi, died on the spot. It is alleged he was driving at a high speed and failed to keep proper lookout.
