MBABANE – Visiting golfers and local business people had a chance to network during the King’s Cup Golf Tournament Business Forum and Networking dinner held at Gigi’s Restaurant on Friday.
When presenting, Zizwe Vilane, Director of Foreign Direct Investment of the Swaziland Investment Promotion Authority (SIPA) said potential areas of collaboration between local and foreign investors included: agro-industries, tourism and international services, manufacturing, infrastructure and construction as well as trade.
“With manufacturing, we have easy and duty free access to the South African market; there is the possibility to manufacture and supply FDI companies; to do value addition in timber, furniture, etc and to use Swaziland’s low cost position to manufacture for international markets. Another advantage is the country’s proximity to the Mozambican market,” he said.
He added other areas of investment, including: energy (power generation and bio-fuels) as well as in renewable energy. Vilane noted that there were opportunities for investment in mining, with coal, diamonds, iron ore, silica and kaolin, among others.
“The benefit with investing in Swaziland include: strategic location, investor safety, superb physical infrastructure, comparatively low cost base, investment protection, developed financial services sector, attractive investment incentives, educated, skilled and readily available labour force as well as institutional support,” he said.
Marketing Manager of the Swaziland Tourism Authority (STA) Bongani Dlamini gave an overview of the tourism industry in Swaziland and its benefits to visitors while Sihle Fakudze of the Federation of Swaziland Employers and Chamber of Commerce (FSE&CC) presented on investment possibilities and the role that the FSE&CC plays in promoting an economic environment conducive to attracting investment and savings
